The largest Bulgarian-Indian tournament began this morning at Cape Kaliakra. In the center of “SHIV KAPUR HOSTS TOUR OF CHAMPIONS” is Shiv Kapur – Golfer Number 1 in India, a sportsman with incredible international success, who is a leading name in the global golf community. He came to Bulgaria at the request of the Bulgarian golf association, Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort, Thracian Cliffs Golf and Beach Resort in Cape Kaliakra, Bulgaria, the Indian embassy in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian embassy in India.
The tournament is carried out with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism of Republic of Bulgaria, Turkish Airlines and in partnership with Indian Golf Association, Turkish Golf Federation, Special Olympics Bulgaria and Bulgarian National Television.
On behalf of the the hosts guests were welcomed by George Chouklev - the president and CEO of Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort. He said that the golf destination Cape Kaliakra opens Bulgaria for new markets like India and could help with keeping the positions in the Scandinavian market.
In the press conference before the inauguration statements about the role of the tournament in popularizing Cape Kaliakra as a golf destination and the development of the Indian-Bulgarian relations were given by the minister of tourism Nikolina Angelkova and the Indian ambassador to Bulgaria Rajesh Kumar Sachdeva. Ambassador Sachdeva emphasized the tour opens a new page in the relations between the two countries. As the first country, which has developed golf after Great Britain India has a long standing tradition and the Indian golfers could have an interest in the Bulgarian courses if they learn more about them and the Bulgarian hospitality.
Minister Angelkova expressed her determination that with this tour Bulgaria will attract international attention and is going to become a more popular golf distination. She pointed out specific parts of the ministry’s plan which will act as an incentive in the golf investments - an investment map showing the administrative support for the golf investments and the charter schedule for the wings of the season. Both programs are going to be finalized by the end of the year.
“Golf is one of the priorities of the ministry”- said minister Angelkova. To be successful a golf destination should have more courses next to one another, because golfers prefer diversity. On Cape Kaliakra there are three courses already and more will be built. The ministry will prepare the administrative basis for the creation of more golf complexes in Bulgaria and will support the ones already exploited.
India is in the ministry’s plans for being a long distance strategic destination. In the period of only 3 months Bulgaria was visited by Bollywood stars and now by the biggest name in Indian golf. This shows that we are in the center of attention for the Indians. We will continue to evolve in that direction so that we can have a tangible result and strengthen and improve the tourism market in both countries.
Congratulations were sent to the organizers of the event by the minister of youth and sports Krasen Kralev. In it he points out that the presence of such an authority within the golf community as Shiv Kapur is a guarantee for the professional and successful go through of the tournament. “In the future the ministry will be a better partner to the Bulgarian golf association in our common purpose to involve more young people in sports and physical activities”- said the minister.
